Roz bil halib (Rice Pudding )

Recipe by:zainab

Roz bil halib (Rice Pudding )

4 cups milk.
1/3 cup short grain rice(known here as Egyptian rice) washed.
1/4 cup sugar.

qaimar mixture:
2 Tablespoons rose water.
1 teaspoon vanilla extract.
2 Tablespoons corn starch.
3 Tablespoons qaimar(you can replace it with cream).

Chopped pistachios,toasted.

1)In a large pan mix milk, rice, sugar, bring to boil then reduce the heat, let it

simmer for 1 1/2 hour.

2)After the mixture is thickens stir in qaimar mixture .

3)Spoon the mixture to 5 dishes,topped with pistachios, serve it warm or cold .

so beautiful! we make something very similar, one with whole rice is called kheer.. the consistency is not very thick, more runny. the other one is Firni, which is withe powdered rice & could be dense or runny. Love it love it.

We have a type of rice pudding here called "arroz con leche", I grew up eacting it.

This looks delicious, I didn't know other countries ate rice pudding. I've never seen it prepared this way before! can't wait to try it :)

about rose water it is concentrated flavouring made from rose petals.(& it different than Orange flower water)
You can find it in Middle Eastern grocers, some supermarkets in the ethnic food section, and also in health food stores.
Hope this help.

I love making kheer. It's so easy and de-li-cious. I love the addition of rose water. Kewra or orange blossom works well too. Yum!
